Beaches of South Coast Montenegro
Long Beach (Velika Plaza) - Also known as Long Beach (and Plazha Madhe in Albanian), is one of Montenegro's great natural assets - it is the country's longest contiguous beach and its most famous Adriatic beach. The beach is well-known for being covered with the finest sand (the diameter of a grain is 0.1-5mm) with such a fine quality that it is reputed to have medicinal and therapeutic qualities.
Ada Bojana - the Ada Bojana (Ada Buna) area of the Ulcinj coast is a popular destination with international travelers to Montenegro, and perhaps most telling, among Montenegrins as well. Some of the most scenic portions of Velika Plaza (Long Beach) are here in Ada Bojana, which along with the daily fresh fish catch, attracts a multitude of beach-goers on any given day.
Valdanos Bay Beach - a horsehoe-shaped natural water body, is situated about four miles to the north of Ulcinj's Old Town, between Mavrijen and Mendra. The bay's end point falls steeply and suddenly into the sea. The beach at Valdanos is single, composed of round stones 1 to 20 cm in diameter.
Ladies Beach (Zenska Plaza) - it is one of many beaches in Montenegro's South Coast with a special following among visitors to the region, as well as local residents. Known as Zenska Plaza in Montenegrin and Zonja Plazhi in Albanian. Locals have long believed that Ladies Beach and its sea caves offer curative powers for ailments, and specific help to women with fertility issues.
Small Beach (Mala Plaza) - So-called Small Beach is the in-town community beach, and beachfront promenade in the heart of Ulcinj. Every evening between 5pm and to after midnight, the promenade along Small Beach is filled with the most beautiful women of the Adriatic, and their admirers.
Other Montenegro Beaches - Other major beaches of Montenegro include Jaz Beach in Budva, and in Bar, Sutomore Beach at 1,200 meters, Big Sands Beach (Veliki pijesak) at 380 meters and Olive Wave (Val maslina) Beach at 200 meters. Surprisingly, Kotor is not a premium destination for sunbathing, as there are no sandy beaches, and water is not of reasonable quality in many parts of the Bay of Kotor.
The same with Herceg-Novi, while the city itself is not a major destination for sunbathing, with no long sandy beaches along the rest of the Boka Kotorska bay, there are Herceg-Novi area beaches that are reachable by boat. Tourist companies organise one-day boat trips to Lustica peninsula, which lies opposite to the Herceg-Novi, and includes beaches such as Zanjic, Miriste and Rose.
Other Excursions and Active Recreation - For those interested in excursions to ancient cities, places of extraordinary wild beauty, and retracing the footsteps of history, there is literally no limit to what can be done in the Ulcinj South Coast. In addition to the above popular activities, there are a myriad of active sports and recreation activities available to visitors, such pursuits as Cave Exploration, Kayaking, Mountaineering, Obstacle Courses, Surfing, and Outdoor
Survival Courses, can be arranged. Simply inquire before arriving to make arrangements for the recreation activity of your choice.
